It turns out that there are a lot of efforts to be made in order to create a perfume. Except for the complicated and delicate task of the perfumer to create the perfect perfume composition, the important role of the designer in the creation of a bottle and an appropriate design that would fit the composition, as well as the creative task to find the most appropriate name for the perfume, the task to extract the fragrance from the notes that are listed in the description is not at all easy.

Here are some of the most widely used perfume manufacturing techniques. Some of them have been known since Antiquity, while others are an accomplishment of the contemporary science:

Cold extraction

Yes, except for olives that we all know about this technique is used for the extraction of perfume notes as well. It is used mainly with citrusy notes (orange, lemon, grapefruit, mandarin, lime, etc) as their fresh and light scent wouldn’t survive any treatment that involves heat. It includes making numerous holes on the surface of the citruses’ peels and then mechanically pressing them to extract the fragrance oil.

Distillation

Probably the most often used technique when it comes to the production of spirits, distillation is also a widely used method for the extraction of the precious scent from different plants, fruit blossoms, and, of course, roses. There are different types of distillation:

steam distillation – in this process the ingredients are heated in a water solvent and the steam that goes through them extracts the essential oils. It is used for the scent extraction of flowers, leaves, and stems.

dry distillation – the process is the same, but the plant is heated directly (without the use of water). It is appropriate for the extraction of amber and different wood notes, adding to them the specific “burnt” effect.

fractionation – this is a method in which different components of the raw material may be selected through distillation. Thus the perfumer can control the process, to a certain extent, selecting the characteristics of the result. Despite its higher price, this method is widely used among perfumers, because unpleasant (or undesired) notes can me eliminated with its help, creating a unique perfume note.

Maceration

Maceration is among the most often used methods for scents extraction for the perfumery’s purposes. It is used for the extraction of perfume ingredients from many plants as well as all notes from animal origin. It is a technique in which the raw material is diluted in a solvent that extracts the scented components. Today different solvents are used (like ethanol, for instance). The solvent extracts the scent from the plant and then it’s evaporated through heating. After that the perfume note is separated with the help of alcohol.

Enfleurage

Enfleurage is among the oldest techniques for perfume production. It is a process that involves animal (saturated) fat. The method is used for the extraction of fragrance from delicate raw materials like orange blossoms, jasmine, and tuberose. Despite the fact that it is extremely sparing for the raw material, it is rarely used today as it is not economically effective when it comes to the time needed for is successful execution and the quality of the final product.

We all know that perfumes are a constant part of our everyday lives – we use them every day and on all occasions. It’s almost unthinkable to go outside without putting on some perfume. But, are we aware of some peculiarities and curious facts about the scented bottles that bring us the desired feeling of style and beauty? Let’s find out…

Did you know that:

The history of perfumes stretches way back in time – there are archeological excavations that prove the use of perfumes from 4000 ago. This means that perfumes are twice as old as Christianity, for example!

In the past perfumes used to serve as a cover-up of unpleasant odors coming from unwashed bodies – the grubby, as per the contemporary concept, aristocrats, bathed quite rarely (sometimes even months passed by before they had a proper bath), so perfumes were their weapon against unpleasant bodily smells.

The first contemporary perfume was… ingested! The „Hungary Water” perfume, created in 1370, is considered the first contemporary perfume, as there was alcohol in its composition (brandy). In order to get the best out of the perfume, except for applying it on the skin, you should also drink it! This practice would be a rather expensive experience nowadays, given the high prices of today’s perfumes…

It’s not easy to create a perfume – a good perfumer is known for his olfaction. One of the tests that beginner perfumers have to take is quite impressive – they are given a scent that consists of up to 250 different notes and they have to specify each one of them!

Rubbing your wrists is wrong! It’s amazing, but it’s a fact – the well known habit of putting perfume on your wrists and then rubbing them energetically actually leads to breaking the perfume structure. Apply on the inner side of the wrists and elbows instead, as well as behind the years and in the middle of the clavicle and let the fragrance “breathe”.

Men’s perfumes are worn by women as well – we all have at least one example of a woman who likes wearing men’s fragrances. It’s an interesting fact that this is not a rare practice – about 30% of all women around the world use men’s fragrances!

The same fragrance smells differently on different people – the reason for this is that different people have different skin – there’s pH, humidity, hormones, as well as many other factors. Don’t buy a perfume if you haven’t tested it on your skin! The fact that you like the way it smells on somebody else doesn’t mean you’ll like the way it smells on you.

The most expensive nose in the world belongs to a… perfumer! It’s understandable, just like an athlete would insure his legs as they bring him profit and glory, a perfumer would insure his nose. That’s what Jean Charles did – according to some resources, his nose was insured for USD 1 million! An even more interesting fact about him is that, towards the end of his life, he totally lost his olfaction, which hasn’t obstructed him from creating perfume masterpieces like Miss Dior despite his condition – just like Beethoven continued creating music after the loss of his hearing!

Emotions can be smelled – probably a remainder of our past, when we used to heavily rely on our olfaction to survive, this ability serves us well even today – among the emotions we can feel with our nose are fear, happiness, and even excitement. Men can even smell when a woman is ovulating!

We all know that there are a lot of fake perfumes on the Bulgarian market. When we buy a perfume (especially online), we are always suspicious about whether we bought an original perfume of a fake one. If the perfume is on sale, we decide that the price is too low for an original perfume, and if the price is high, we are concerned that the seller wants to mislead us with the high price. Here’s how to make sure that the perfume we bought is original:

Package

Package is the first element of the perfume that we notice. It’s easy to find out whether the perfume in the package is a fake if there is a misspelled word or a grammar mistake in the name and description of the perfume. You don’t believe that a famous perfume house would make such a mistake, do you? Take a look at the cellophane – it has to be transparent and it should adhere tightly to the carton package (if it is cloudy or wrinkled, this should strain your attention).

But before you jump to any conclusions, you should take into account two things. Firstly, there’s a strong chance that the package may be harmed due to bad transportation. Very often the online perfumery retailers use courier services to ship their products countrywide. Even if it hardly ever happens, the courier may mistreat the package and thus damage its content.

Also, you should pay attention to the fact that there are a lot of original perfumes without an official package on the market. These so called testers, are just as high quality as any original perfume. The only difference is the lack of an official package. Bear in mind that the testers are more appropriate for personal use rather than as a present.

Bottle

You should make sure to find the origin of the perfume – it’s at the bottom of the bottle and says “Made in…” Despite the fact that you may come upon a fake perfume, whose bottle has the perfume’s origin, there are some other clues that will help you find out if it is an original or a fake one. The quality of the bottle should be impeccable – its surface should be smooth, with no bubbles in the glass, the inscriptions should be precise, there shouldn’t be any smudges on the texts and logos. The cap should stick tightly to the bottle and it shouldn’t come off if you turn the bottle upside down.

Perfume

The perfume in the bottle should be absolutely transparent (with no sediment or a difference in nuances). There shouldn’t be any clouds or particles in the liquid at the bottom of the bottle. As you know, the fragrance of a genuine perfume is multi-layered and consists of top notes, heart notes, and base notes. In a fake perfume you won’t find this multi-layer composition. In the best case, the fake fragrance will vaguely remind you of the original, but, in most cases, the two have nothing in common. You should never spray the perfume directly on your skin if you have any doubts it may not be original as you don’t know what chemical substances are in there and if they are harmless for the human health.

Barcode

A lot of people think that the perfume barcode shows whether it is original or not. In fact, we shouldn’t judge by this as the barcode is the easiest to falsify (it’s much easier to create a barcode with a graphic program than to make the bottle, imitate the package design and the liquid inside). The barcode on the package shows where and when the perfume is produced and it’s important to know that the same perfume may be produced in different places and thus may have different barcodes. The perfumes made in France have barcodes that start with 30-37, those made in England start with 50, the German ones start with 400-440, the Spanish with 84, the Italian with 80-83, and those from USA and Canada start with 00-09.

Decoding

Perfume decoding is erasing of the information showing where the perfume is intended to be sold to (the batch number is erased and there is usually a sticker with the perfume’s country of origin on top of it). For instance, if a certain perfume is intended for India, its price would be much lower than if it is intended for Europe. So, if an Indian distributor sells it to a European distributor, its final price would be lower than if the perfume is bought directly from the European producer. The chance for such a “decoded” perfume to be a fake is close to zero as perfume decoding of a fake product doesn’t make any sense.

Our advice – be careful when you choose a perfume and always choose a legitimate online store. An answer to the question “How to choose a good website for original branded perfumes” you will find here.

How to choose a good website for original branded perfumes?

For quite some time I have noticed a tendency on the Internet, regarding Bulgarian websites selling perfumes. There are a lot of topics and comments like “Perfume websites we can trust” or “Perfume thoughts and passions”, part of which are pretty ridiculous or just written for advertising purposes on a particular website. This makes me think about many things in the area of online sales of branded perfumes which are not available to the customer. This is why I decided to write this article in order to expose a lot of the unethical and unlicensed practices of online stores in Bulgaria. In this article I would like to answer many of the basic questions, inquiries and concerns, most of you may have, but you simply cannot find online. Or, more precisely, “How do I choose a good website for original branded perfumes?”

I have been working in one of the oldest companies dealing with selling and distribution of original branded perfumes in Bulgaria for 6 years now. During this time I would say that I have gained a great deal of experience, a professional opinion and a good knowledge of the Bulgarian market for branded perfumery as well as online shopping. In general, e-commerce is a relatively new phenomenon that has evolved quickly over the last 10-15 years. This fact is valid for the Bulgarian market as well and a lot of websites for ‘original’ branded perfumes came up in recent years. Unfortunately, many of these websites offer replicas of famous designer fragrances in order to gain a bigger profits.

After having done an extensive research on many websites for branded perfumes, in this article I will try to give you some guidance on how to protect yourself from unlicensed and unfair online stores, how to distinguish quality websites from bad websites that offer branded perfumes and why it is important to be careful especially with such websites.

How do we know which websites offer “fake products” according to the prices?

In most websites that offer fake products the prices of perfumes usually range between 20 and 40 levs, depending on the brand. The prices of the same products in many other websites vary between 20 and 250 levs. Quite strange, isn’t it? As a matter of fact, their real price is much lower. Don’t be fooled by the variety of reductions or by the blinking banners with 70% discount. They are often not real as many brands stick to their high prices and would never reduce their products’ prices that much, even if they are bought in bulk from the distributor.

Tip: Compare the prices of the product you selected in at least a few websites. If there is a place with big differences in prices, you’d better think twice before purchasing from there.

How to find out which websites offer fake products judging by their products?

One of the first things that you will notice in websites that sell fake products is the fact that the products are sold in the biggest ml option. They usually sell packages of 100 ml. Some brands, however, offer perfumes with the biggest volume being 90, 75, or 65 ml. More often than not a perfume is sold in 2 to 4 quantity varieties, the most frequently used being 30, 50, and 100 ml. Fake perfumes usually come in the biggest possible volume as it guarantees a higher price and a higher profit.

Tip: If you are not sure about the quality of a certain product, but you want to check if the products are original, you should order a smaller ml option of a favorite perfume. Even if it turns out to be fake, you won’t regret paying too much money on it.

Are there fake sets of perfumes or body products of famous brands?

It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to find a fake perfume set with a body product or a promotional item in Bulgaria. The reason for this is the fact that it is hard, costly and time-consuming to produce a replica of a whole set or a body product. There is a tendency for famous designer houses to launch different sets on the market every season. A website offering different sets and body products is much more likely to sell original perfumes, than a website offering only perfumes.

Tip: Despite its highest price, buying a set is always cheaper than buying the perfume and the body product separately. Besides this, the risk of buying a fake product is reduced to almost zero.

How to find if the chosen by me website or firm is reliable?

Almost all websites offering ‘fake products’ do not present a company name, a VAT number, a UIC or an address – they only have a contact number. If such details are available, you can easily find additional information for the company’s business. If you cannot find such details, you can be sure that the website is not working officially or at least it is not paying taxes and does not take legal responsibility as a limited company. Most companies for original branded perfumes have official stores as well, which allows you to check the quality of the products on site before buying them.

Tip: Before purchase, look for some information about the company on their website. Also make sure to check if the company issues receipts or invoices. This can assure you that you are shopping from an actually existing, licensed company for selling branded perfumes.

Why are the prices online lower than the prices in stores?

This question can be answered briefly – due to the lower expenses. Websites do not pay for retail rent, salaries for staff, electricity, water or heating. They don’t have to invest in samples of the product, showcases or a good looking store. The expenses for a small shop of around 40 square meters in a big city are around 2000 levs per month, while the maintenance cost of a website could be as low as 10 levs per month. You can do the math and see how much more profitable it is to sell online. Besides that, the competition on the web is greater, because websites not only compete with each other, but with all other local and national comapnies as well. Consequently, the web prices can be significantly lower than those in stores. This should not be surprising to anybody, because almost all major companies now offer online shopping which in most cases is both more beneficial for the customers and more profitable for the company.

Tip: Do not be afraid of purchasing online! This could save both money and time. Unfortunately, online shopping can’t entirely replace the need for stores where you can try a product or get a professional opinion and advice.

Why are perfumes most often a subject of imitations and replication?

Branded perfumes and clothes are mainly the subject of imitations due to their high price and the returns that such products have. Fragrances have a long shelf life and are neither too bulky nor too heavy. This makes them easy to distribute and sell. Another major factor is that many of the imitations are made in Turkey which is in close proximity to Bulgaria. This makes our market very attractive for offering “fake products”. Usually “fake products” can be bought for 4-10 levs and their return is at least double or triple.

Tip: There are also quite cheap branded and quality perfumes on the market which you can find at prices between 20 and 40 levs. Such brands in this low-price section are Benetton, Elizabeth Arden, Just Cavalli, Iceberg and Diesel.

Internet shopping in Bulgaria will continue growing and the trend is that the best online shops will be sifted out from the rest. More people will be turning to online shopping as it is an easy, fast and cheap way of buying products. Even though a big part of Bulgarians purchase from foreign websites, in order to reduce the risk of fake products, we should have in mind that the prices in the Bulgarian websites are lower and the delivery is faster. Unfortunately, as long as there is demand for fake products, there will be supply for them as well.

My personal opinion is that the Bulgarian customer is a well-read, educated and careful buyer, who can judge on his own and distinguish the quality products from the rest. Since a great part of the information I publish is not generally known among customers and is rather known among the perfume traders, I hope that this article will protect a lot of customers from unlicensed and unethical sellers and will help them make the best decision when buying branded perfumes online.

While choosing or looking for a suitable perfume, only few people are aware how complex is the composition of a fragrance. Few are those who know how many varieties of scents exist, and even fewer can accurately determine the type of a perfume. Many people go to perfume stores and have no idea what they are looking for. Customers often try to explain to the consultant by using words such as “fresh”, “sweet” or “extravagant”. With such explanations many experts would struggle to provide with a competent and professional opinion when having so many options. This is why clients are often disappointed in their quest to find their desired scent.

This article aims to present the variety of groups and subgroups of modern scents that can be found in perfumes available on the market.

1. Aromatic

Aromatic notes are a combination of sage, rosemary, caraway, lavender and other plants that have an intense, spicy scent of grass. They are often combined with citrusy or spicy notes. Aromatic compositions are typical for male fragrances.

1.1. Aromatic Aquatic

This group consists of fresh accords of sea water and they are mainly used in fragrances for men.

1.2. Aromatic Fougere

This group’s name origins from the French word “fougere” or “fern”. Coumarin can be found in the center of the composition. The perfumer who created this group is Fougere Royal from the house of Houbigant, created by Paul Parquet in 1882. The perfumer extracted the synthetic component coumarin and used it in perfumery for the first time. Coumarin can be found in nature in several plants like tonka bean, and has an intense scent of freshly-cut grass. Fougere compositions include notes of lavender, geranium, moss and wood. This group is mainly used in male fragrances.

1.3. Aromatic Fruity

This is a relatively new group that includes mainly men’s and unisex fragrances. They are composed of aromatic components and fresh fruits that provide a fresh, moist and exotic impression.

1.4. Aromatic Green

The compositions of this group have enhanced green notes of grass or leaves and aromatic components (lavender, rosemary, wood).

1.5. Aromatic Spicy

This group includes mainly men’s fragrances. The combination of spices and aromatic components create a fresh and cool sensation.

2. Chypre

This olfactory group was launched after the creation of Chypre perfume by Coty in 1917. Chypre means Cyprus in French. This sharp scent is based on the harmony of oakmoss, labdanum, patchouli and bergamot.

2.1. Chypre Floral

Flowers such as rose, lily-of-the-valley or jasmine are a traditional ingredients in Chypre compositions.

2.2. Chypre Fruity

Compositions of Chypre group are perfectly combined with fruity notes such as peach, apricot, strawberry or exotic fruits. They have a warm and rich scent.

3. Citrus

Citrusy scents are old and abundant. Their compositions are based on lemon, orange, bergamot, grapefruit, mandarin and other citruses, with aromatic and tart notes for men and floral notes for women.

3.1. Citrus Aromatic

These are citruses with aromatic herbs (lavender, rosemary, caraway, mint).

3.2. Citrus Gourmand

This group includes sweet citruses (lime, orange), and other citrus fruits, whether or not combined with sugar, vanilla, caramel and sweet flowers.

4. Floral

This is the biggest aromatic group and it encompasses numerous versions of compositions with a floral heart: freshly picked flowers, flowers with aquatic-green or powdery nuances, and also floral-aldehyde, floral-fruity and sweet compositions.

4.1. Floral Aldehyde

The creator of this group is the most famous Chanel No.5, created by Ernest Beaux for the house of Chanel in 1921. The complex floral composition of this perfume includes a substantial dose of aldehydes – a synthetic component used for the first time by Ernest Beaux.

4.2. Floral Aquatic

Fresh compositions of this aromatic group include nuances of sea water or notes of aquatic flowers or herbs.

4.3. Floral Fruity

Floral-fruity perfume flooded the market in the mid-1990s due to the significant rejuvenation of perfume users as a result of the liberalization of the industry. The compositions of this group are refreshing, light and airy, with a sweet, fruity nuance.

4.4. Gourmand Floral Fruity

The range of floral-fruity scents is constantly expanding. This is why we have gourmand floral fruity fragrances with sweet nuances of caramel, sugar, chocolate, candy and so on in a separate category.

4.5. Floral Green

Green notes of grass and leaves bring freshness and tartness in the floral composition and leave an impression of freshly picked flowers.

4.6. Floral Woody Musk

The absolute floral supremacy is enriched with woody and/or musky presence in this group which adds depth and warmth, and powdery nuances as well to the whole composition.

5. Leather

Leather scents in different nuances from floral, velvety (for tartness) or smoked compositions fall in this group. Scent of processed leather products is used to mask the unpleasant smell of genuine leather.

6. Oriental

Oriental scents with dominating amber are placed in a separate group to strengthen their warmth and sensuality. Their opulent bouquet includes intoxicating and intense ingredients such as musk, vanilla, exotic resins and wood, often accompanied with exotic flowers and spices.

6.1. Oriental Floral

A sweet, warm, powdery base, typical for this group, is in harmony with flowers such as gardenia, tuberose, tiare flower or with a spicy note of carnation.

6.2. Oriental Fougere

This is a harmony of oriental components (warm, woody and spicy notes) which is refreshed with aromatic lavender, rosemary, coumarin and oakmoss.

6.3. Oriental Spicy

Warm and sensual spices such as cinnamon, carnation and nutmeg are combined with oriental notes such as wood and resins.

6.4. Oriental Vanilla

This group incorporates the sweet fragrances built on the harmony of oriental notes (wood, resins, flowers and spices) and sweet components (caramel, vanilla, chocolate, almond, honey).

6.5. Oriental Woody

Traditional oriental ingredients are enriched with woody accords of warm sandalwood or dry notes of cedar and vetiver.

7. Woody

Magnificent compositions of woody notes in the heart of the fragrance are enhanced with woody notes in the base. Warm, mysterious sandalwood, dry and sharper cedar and vetiver, resin-like and light exotic woods are usually accompanied with aromatic and citrusy notes.

7.1. Woody Aquatic

This type of composition, as a rule, combines a woody heart with fresh, aromatic accords and aquatic notes.

7.2. Woody Aromatic

The very masculine combination of wood and aromatic notes is characteristic for male fragrances. An opulent heart and a base with aromatic herbs.

7.3. Woody Chypre

Oakmoss and labdanum, traditional for Chypre group, are combined with dominating woody notes which have a very rich and intense scent.

The dominant wood in the heart of the composition has a beautiful opening of flowers such as violets and freesia, and a musky base as well.

7.5. Woody Spicy

A soft and pleasant scent with exotic wood harmonizes with warm, bitter spices such as black pepper, carnation, nutmeg and cinnamon.

The history of perfumes is as old as the human history itself. They were first used by the Egyptians for their religious rituals and ceremonies – there is evidence of perfume usage in Ancient Egypt dating back to 3500 BC. The word “perfume”, however, comes from the Romans. It was used for ceremonial burnings, or “per fumum”, which means “through smoke”, so this Latin phrase gave perfumes their popular name.

Greeks are the first to produce liquid perfumes, but they were very different from the perfumes we use today – back then they consisted of very heavy oils and fragrant powders. Except for spiritual rituals, perfumes were used to cover bad body scent. They were also applied to pets and different household objects, which quickly put them in a favorable position among kings, queens and all kinds of nobility.

Modern perfumes are very different from their predecessors. Today they are a mixture of essential oils, fixatives, and solvents. Nowadays, these compounds can be either synthetically produced, or extracted from different plants. Either way, each perfume consists of 3 main types of notes:

Top notes – these are the scents that you smell right after you apply the perfume on your skin. They usually evaporate very quickly, but, as they form the first impression of a given perfume, they are very important.

Middle notes – as their name implies, these are the scents that unfold after the top notes evaporate. They are the “heart” of the perfume.

Base notes – these are the notes you smell after the middle notes have disappeared. Together with the middle notes, they form the overall theme of the perfume. Base notes are richer and deeper and they usually unfold in about 30 minutes after application.

When it comes to concentration of the aromatic compounds, there are several main types of fragrances:

Perfume Extract – this is the most difficult kind to find, its concentration is between 15% and 40%. Be careful with this one, as it is very strong (it lasts for about 6 hours) and it can easily cause skin irritations!

Eau de Perfume (EdP) – its concentration is between 10% and 20% (typically, it is about 15%). It usually lasts for about 3 to 5 hours.

Eau de Toilette (EdT) – its aromatic compounds are between 5% and 15% (typically, about 10%). It usually lasts for about 2 to 4 hours.

Eau de Cologne (EdC) – its aromatic compounds are between 3% and 8% (typically, about 5%). It usually lasts for up to 2 hours.

Important note on fragrances’ longevity: there is a lot of ambiguity when it comes to the longevity and strength of the above types of fragrances. For example, typically, Eau de perfume (EdP) will be more concentrated than Eau de Toilette (EdT), which means it will be more intensive and long-lasting, but that’s not always the case! Note that different perfume houses use different amounts of oils for their fragrances, which means that an EdT from one perfume house may actually be stronger and last longer than and EdP from another perfume house.

Our advice: take a look at the types of fragrances you have at home – they will give you an idea of what strength you are used to. Then, when you go fragrance shopping, always test the fragrance on your skin (one fragrance at a time) and wait for it to unfold. Take your time and have fun finding your next favorite fragrance!

There are people who want to learn more about fragrances but are afraid of the fact that this hobby may be too expensive for them. How can they try all fragrances they hear about without going broke? We all know that when we are on a tight budget, buying something more expensive requires huge planning.

The truth is that the joy of this hobby doesn’t require having many bottles on your dresser. Smelling scents is what makes this hobby so thrilling. And this doesn’t even cost a penny!

I will share some tricks with you that helped me to stick to my budget and still develop a taste for perfumes

Just try
You don’t have to buy anything in order to enjoy scents. If you want a sample of a perfume, you can easily enter the store and try the tester. Some store will even give you free samples.
When you smell something for the first time, you focus on the feeling that it evokes, not on whether you like it or not.

Don’t rush into buying
This is probably the most important thing you need to learn. Spare some time to find what your taste is because you might not like a spontaneous purchase tomorrow.
If you hear someone praising a certain perfume but it is too expensive for you, don’t hesitate and ask if there is a cheaper perfume that is similar to it. Often expensive perfumes have a budget scent that resembles it in some way.

Smell the classics
It is not necessary to have a classic perfume or even like it. But being in touch with a classic can help you learn a lot about perfumes with impressive quality. Even if the local store is limited in its choice of perfumes, it will surely offer Estee Lauder, Lancome, Chanel and Dior.

Smell the scents around you
If you want to learn more about fragrances, smell the scents around you – herbs, teas, coffee, chocolate, olive oil, mango. Open your cabinet with spices and find vanilla or cinnamon. Learning about the character of spices will help you a lot in understanding perfumes because most of them use at least 1 or 2 spices in their compositions.

Buy samples instead of full bottles
If you have found a fragrance that has attracted your attention, buy a sample. Although full bottles are more profitable, at least you can buy several less expensive perfumes for the same price.

Swap perfumes
Find people with the same interests in blogs and forums, and swap perfumes. This is a great opportunity to try new scents and meet people who also love perfumes.

Try budget perfumes
You will be surprised how many less expensive fragrances have the same good quality. Also, you will probably find such that remind you of much more expensive perfumes. You don’t need to spend a huge amount of money to find a scent that suits you and will impress people around you. You just need a little research and it doesn’t cost much time with so many blogs, forums and websites with reviews of any perfume you can think of.
We will still recommend you a few less expensive brands which we have found to be very popular and liked.

Last week one of our customers notified us they ‘could not sense the scent of his perfume’. But what we found more interesting was not the fact that the man could not smell the scent of his perfume, since a man’s nose gets used to a certain type of smell in a while, but the fact that after a month of using the perfume (at least, that’s what our sales records show) our customer noticed that his product didn’t have a sticker in Bulgarian, which led him to think it was not original. Unfortunately, we couldn’t determine whether there had been a sticker present on the box, since most of the stickers, with importers’ details, are placed on the cellophane package and after unboxing the product, the cellophane package usually gets thrown away. Also, we cannot know if the client stored his perfume correctly, otherwise inappropriate storage might affect the perfume and its quality. (Do you want to know how to store your perfume properly? Check out this article)

Anyway, this story made us write the current article in order to answer a few questions about both Bulgarian and European markets of original perfumes, as well as the products that our company offers.

Do only official Bulgarian importers have the right to offer original perfumes?

NO! Every single retail company has the right to offer designer perfumes without being an official importer of a certain brand. Moreover, since Bulgaria is a member state of the European Union, every Bulgarian business can trade with their partners in other union members, complying with the EU laws and regulations. Since most of the branded fragrances are produced within the EU, you should not have a specific import permision or to be an official destributor of a brand in order to make trade. For this reason every company has the right to sell designer perfumes freely on EU territory. When Bulgarian customers buy perfumes from the UK, then the British can seamlessly buy products from Bulgarian retailers, without any restraints.

Do only original perfumes have sticker in Bulgarian or a hologram?

NO! Very few of the original perfumes in Bulgaria have a hologram sticker. Most importers use a simple paper sticker. As we mentioned before, every Bulgarian company has the right to purchase perfumes from other EU companies and to put Bulgarian stickers on. However, it is really easy to imitate a sticker in Bulgarian and put it on a 3-4 lev replica, which you can offer as an original product. Even holograms can be replicated. So, this is why you should keep in mind that even the presence of a sticker in Bulgarian on a perfume, doesn’t make it original. Nevertheless, it most certainly reduces the chance of you buying a fake one.
(Find more information about how you can avoid unlicensed perfume retailers herе).

If a perfume has a fault, does that mean it is not original?

NO! In perfume manufacturing, as well as any other industry, it is possible for some products to have faults, since the whole industrial process is automatic. In our experience, 0.2% to 0.5% of products can show manufacturing defect, especially when it comes to the sprayer. In addition, incorrect storing and transportation can damage the perfume’s content. It is highly unlikely for you to receive a faulted designer perfume, but there is always a small chance, despite the perfume is original. But if that is the case, you should simply return the product to the shop you had purchased it from and ask for a replacement.

Do the perfumes that Venera Cosmetics offers have stickers in Bulgarian?

YES! Most of the products we offer have stickers in Bulgarian with details about the product, as well as information about the importer (except for those without package). Our company has several European partners and the items they offer don’t have Bulgarian stickers, since the products themselves are not Bulgarian. So, in this sense, our partners are not obliged to put stickers in any language (including Bulgarian) on what they sell. If you purchase a product from France, it will certainly not have a Bulgarian sticker on it, but it doesn’t mean it’s not an original. In addition, we send items to our customers in other European countries under similar circumstances – the products don’t have stickers in their native languages.

For those who have not notice or know all this, here are some pictures of perfumes with stickers, offered by Venera Cosmetics.

Why are the prices of Venera Cosmetics much better than those of other Bulgarian perfume retailers?

Our company has been both a distributor and a retailer of original designer perfumes for 22 years and we distribute our products to other stores and wholesalers in most of Southern Bulgaria. We are working with over 15 official distributors and retailers in Bulgaria and other European countries. We strive always to find the best possible price for our products. Due to the large amount of merchandise and low margins, we can offer our range of products at affordable prices. Sometimes, the margin (not the profit, but the trade margin on purchased products) is under 10%, which is extremely low for a retailer. In comparison, most of the perfume stores at big shopping malls sell on recommended retail price (RRP), which might be two, even three times higher than the prices that we sell. After all, it is extremely hard to maintain a luxurious perfume store (we can tell from our own personal experience since we had several ones in Plovdiv city centre), to cover your expenses and make profit – all at the same time.

What guarantees that the products offered by Venera Cosmetics are original?

WE are the guarantee! We are the ones who can assure you of the high quality of our products. WE are the ones, who you should alert in case of a problem, and then it is again our concern to contact our distributors about the issue. Since you have bought a product from one of our stores, regardless of it having a sticker or not, you can always return it in 14 days after the moment of purchase. But when you contact us after a month from completing your order and you tell us that your perfume ‘doesn’t smell’ after using half of its content, you should know that in this case we are helpless and we cannot do anything about that.

We do not produce perfumes, but we sell what the big names in this industry manufacture. We do want the big companies to use more organic ingredients for their perfumes, instead of less expensive, synthetic substitutes, but perfumery is just a business. A business, which we have been a part of for 22 years. A business, which we will continue to be in, thanks to our clients’ support and loyalty. We WILL continue to offer only 100% original perfumes with guarantee origins, at the lowest possible price in Europe.

Choosing the perfect dress or suit isn’t the only thing you should worry about when it comes to prom – you will definitely want your fragrance match your personality and attire as well.

Of course, there is nothing wrong in having a perfume you always wears even to such extent that it has become a part of you. But this evening requires something a bit more special.

We have some suggestions for you that you may have in mind. If you choose your fragrance carefully, it will make you even more beautiful and irresistible.

For the gentlemen:

Narciso Rodriguez for Him
This mystical, interesting and alluring perfume will certainly intrigue the ladies around you. Often described as strangely beautiful, this is not a fragrance that you would wear every day. This makes it perfectly suited for that special occasion..

Versace Eros
This perfume is fresh, woody and slightly oriental. It is named after the Greek god of love Eros and this is no coincidence – it will make everyone fall in love with you. This is a fragrance that is suitable for the ones who protect and fight for their ideas.

Bvlgari Man Extreme
This perfume is a timeless symbol of male power; a classic that will attract the opposite sex. It brings the Mediterranean freshness and is full of contrasts. It is designed for the elegant man with class and character who wants to be noticed and distinguished from the others.

Paco Rabanne Invictus
This is the scent of victory – a sensual, fresh fragrance that presents a new vision of masculinity. It is interesting because it represents the unexpected clash of worlds, powers, feelings and values: the thrill of the fresh top notes meets the sensuality of the guaiac wood in the base. It was created to be a surprise and to stand out with the duality of its composition.

Dolce & Gabbana The One Gentleman
This fragrance is designed for the man who is polite, considered, with an innate sense of chivalry. This man knows who he is and this is why he has nothing to prove.

For the ladies:
